Safehouse named Scotland’s top SME

Safehouse Habitats (Scotland) Ltd has topped the Scottish Business Insider’s SME300 league table with revenue of just under £20million for the financial year 2013/14.

Safehouse stormed the league thanks to an 11% increase in turnover, rising from 10th place the previous year. The announcement comes just over a year after private equity took control of the firm, and CEO Gordon Mackay was placed at the helm to lead the company’s ambitious international growth strategy.

Gordon Mackay, Chief Executive, said: “We have grown from our humble beginnings and become a good sized SME in around 10 years. Current investors recognised the opportunity to build on this success and will take the company to the next level, a goal we’ve been working towards since we took the reins about 14 months ago.

“It’s been an incredible first year for me at Safehouse. We’ve restructured the business and made some key appointments so we’re now in a good place to grow internationally. We established our presence in Abu Dhabi last year and we’re working on a number of strategic partnerships that will see Safehouse become a globally recognised safety brand.”

“The partnership will allow our customers access to fully ATEX certified technology that they can rely on to mitigate risk during hot work activities like welding. I look forward to working with Safehouse to grow both businesses and to enhancing EQIN’s portfolio of ATEX certified technology.”

Safehouse Hosts Live Technology Event

Safehouse Habitats recently held a live technology demonstration in Aberdeen to showcase their services to companies looking at ways to maximise hot work maintenance cost efficiencies.

A live demonstration vehicle that was developed to demonstrate the technology, its practical applications and benefits, was used at the event to offer potential and existing customers an insight into the engineered solution.

Safehouse’s innovative habitats are designed to offer a fully engineered control measure to mitigate the risk of ignition associated with hot work in hazardous environments.

The pressurised enclosures work by taking air from a designated safe zone to positively pressurise the habitat to create a barrier that stops hydrocarbons entering the internal environment. The robust technology, which is used as part of process safety management systems in basins across the world, allows us to monitor the habitat and surrounding area for hydrocarbons and pressurisation, constantly maintaining safe operations.

Harry MacDonald from Axiom NDT said “I found that the product can be used in more locations than I anticipated at first. The team displayed excellent knowledge and the explanation of the modular build process, with the addition of having multiple inlets and outlets while keeping positive pressure within the habitat was great.”

Following the success of our first event, Safehouse will be looking to book in further demos this year at the EIC premises both in Aberdeen and Teesside.
